Some practical tips to make drinks with calvados:
• Most of the drinks that contain brandy will work very well with calvados.
• Young and less aged calvados can replace non-aged spirits like vodka, tequila or rum. Look for ‘Originel’, ‘Fine’, ‘Trois étoiles’ and ‘Trois pommes’.
• Well-aged calvados can replace aged spirits like rum or cognac. They are also suited to being served on their own with a cigar, ‘on the rocks’ or with soda.
• Pommeau is a nice aperitif or companion to desserts. Served with ice it turns into a long drink and with sparkling wine or cider an aperitif.
• Liqueurs of apple have a sweet apple aroma and a nice change from other liqueurs used in cocktails.
• ‘Calvados cream’ can be served plain over ice or used in drinks like any other cream liqueur.
