Award-winning calvados Pays d’Auge of high quality. The distillery ‘la Morinière’ and cellars in Notre-Dame-de-Courson will be open for visits. You can also buy and taste the Lecompte range at wine specialists and shops in Caen, Rouen, le Havre and Deauville. It all started in 1886 when Mr Théodose created a wholesale wine and spirit company in Lisieux. In 1923 Alexandre Lecompte, an apple merchant in Gournay-en-Bray, bought it and started to resale under the brand ‘Lecompte, Rosée de Lisieux’. In 1933 Alexandre created ‘Reinette’, a Norman liqueur containing calvados. In 1945, Pierre Lecompte changed the name to Vieux calvados Lecompte. In 1955, the first Lecompte aged at ‘Ferme de la Bascule’ was launched with success among ‘connoisseurs’. In 1962 Pierre Lecompte became one of the founders (together with Pierre Boulard) of the calvados syndicate. In 1978, Pierre Lecompte died and Yves Pellerin resumed the business in 1979. He bought the farm at Notre-Dame-de-Courson from Mr Fountain together with a substantial amount of old stocks. There he installed two traditional stills for double distillation and the cellars were expanded. In 1981, Yves Pellerin started to export and Hervé Pellerin (no family link) joined the company. They decide to build an image of Lecompte as the fruity calvados. Their recent blend ‘originel’ is a representative of this effort. In 1996, the Lecompte brand holds nearly 17 percent of the market shares of calvados Pays d’Auge distributed to the United States and have development in Asia and Europe. 75 percent of production is exported. Lecompte use a blend of small and large oak casks, both new and old, some are sherry casks used for +12 years. Range includes the fruity ‘Originel’ (3 years), 5 years, Hors d’Age (8–10 years), 12, 15 and 20 years old. ‘La Reinelle’ is a calvados liqueur.

The distillery of Lecompte is a discret farm at Notre-Dame-de-Courson. It hides a substantial amount of old stocks and two traditional stills for double distillation. The Originel (right) is a young but fruity and soft calvados from Lecompte – perfect for drinks. The cellar master Richard Prevel and Hervé Pellerin tasting at the cellars (Photo from Lecompte).
