Agricultural made calvados Pays D’Auge of very high quality. Cellar door sales at traditional mansion ‘Clos de la Hurvanière’ in the heart of the Pays d'Auge. Four generations of the Groult family have made calvados. In 1850, Pierre Groult started selling calvados and in 1893, he won a gold medal at the agriculture show in Lisieux. The medal encouraged him to continue but the main activity was livestock farming and dairying. In 1950, Roger Groult built the present distillery with two stills of 400 litres each (from his great-grandfather) together with one ‘new’ still of 1200 litres. He also complemented with bigger cellars. The property consists of 15 hectares of traditional high-stem apple trees and 8 hectares of ‘half’ high-stem apple trees. Additional fruit are also bought from neighbours. Groult’s philosophy is to use small stills for concentration and a wood fire for a gentle non-aggressive heat. The excellent legacy of previous generations stored in the Groult cellars result in limited sales of some exceptionally unique calvados. The range includes the ‘Ancestral Reserve’ from the cellar of Pierre Groult (great-grandfather); ‘Doyen d’Age’ (grandfather); ‘Venerable’ and ‘Age d’Or’ from the cellars of Roger Groult; complemented with calvados Pays d’Auge of 15, 8 and 3 years of age.

The cellar dedicated to the grandfather of Jean Pierre
Groult. There are also cellars dedicated to his father and
great-grandfather.
